Helm 0.9.0 freezes Ubuntu #250

Happens with on LV2, LinuxVST, and standalone version.

The standalone version doesn't even open up, it just freezes the system completely.

Plugin versions open the GUI after a struggle. Usually, the crash/freeze happens when changing any parameters of the synth. The plugin produces audio without any issues, but opening the GUI freezes the system.

My system:

  Operating System: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
            Kernel: Linux 5.4.0-31-lowlatency
      Architecture: x86-64

I observed similar behavior on Ubuntu Studio 19.10 64 to be with Ardour 6 Demo. I added Helm LV2 to the track and tried everything in a row presets from the Bass section. After about 3-5 minutes, everything except the sound hung, even the mouse did not move. I waited,to restart the computer, but suddenly a beggar window popped up asking me to buy Ardour and suddenly it thawed, the mouse worked again, I played with Helm for about 1 minute and again the frieze, which again thawed using the beggar window. Then I tried to use VST-Helm instead of LV2 and it no longer froze the system at all. Then I recreated the session and tried to reproduce the error with the LV2 version again, but nothing worked. Helm worked hard and did not freeze anything ... An incomprehensible bug. Moreover, I am sure that this happened to me a year ago when I last tried to use Helm on Xubunta or Kubunta 18.

Helm was obtained from the Ubuntu Studio repository (Helm 0.9)

Same experience with v0.9.0 on Debian buster (10.4 - amd64). Interestingly, the same version of the package for armhf works fine on my Raspberry Pi4 with Rapsbian buster too! But I'm not using Gnome 3 on that box (default windows manager from Raspian).
