Problematic File Access ESP32 / ESP8266 #2066

Hi, I've installed microPYthon on two different ESP32 boards and an ESP8266 board. The installation works ok. This is on a HP Prodesk PC. REPL appears to work ok, however 'files' only works very infrequently, and even then it will only work once.

I installed mu editor on a laptop and it appears to work ok with the same boards.

Same experience here, with MicroPython 1.18 on ESP32 (esp32-20220117-v1.18.bin).

Mu complains: "Could not enter raw REPL.".

I'm running macOS 11.6.4 with Mu 1.1.1.
