Change Discord to Gitter #3

@Pasqualle , I saw you've added a link to Discord in the new website. We already have a channel on Gitter (that is not so active though) I have no experience with Discord - would you say it is better than Gitter? if so, why?

The website only mentioned the IRC channel, I did not know about Gitter. Discord seems to be the default chat client for many old/new software projects and companies.

Gitter has a bit of a rough life lately. Gitlab acquired it in 2017 https://about.gitlab.com/blog/2017/03/15/gitter-acquisition/ Element acquired it in 2020 https://matrix.org/blog/2020/09/30/welcoming-gitter-to-matrix

Not sure what to think about these acquisitions, but personally I did not use Gitter since Angular switched to Discord.

There are many chat clients since Slack became so popular (and IRC died), and many communities are changing their default communication software. Discord seems to be in the winner group, with Gitter I am not sure. Some time ago I was also researching which chat client would the best fit for a software community. Now I use 3 chat clients daily, so I do not have a preference any more.

Maybe ask on the gitter chat, how many users are using Discord, or would like to try it out. Or what is their preferred chat client.

Yeah, thanks @Pasqualle , that's a good idea. I posted a question in Gitter on that. In the meantime, I'll get this one in to point users to the existing group and we'll update it if needed when we'll make up our mind on switching to a different chat service.
