I can't understand how the Scout Timing field works either. If I enter any
value greater than 0, it seems to insert a "+1 Scouting Drone" build step at a
random place, depending on what other units I tell it to build.

The scout timing currently works that when you reach x drones, where x is the
number you input, it will set the xth drone as a scouting drone. x <= 6, x != 0
results in behavior like x = 7.

My suggestion would be you input a time instead, if you have a drone on
minerals it sets it as scouting, otherwise the next drone you produce will be a
scouting drone, thoughts?

I think a time makes more sense, since you don't know exactly when you'll have
that nth Drone.

Much agreed. I scout at particular times depending on the map and what race I'm
playing with. Makes a big difference if you're trying to scout a 6 pool on a
big map.
