There may be a UI bug where it doesn't update the field. When I tested it, I 
got 4 gas extractors just fine. But if you had 3 extractors in that field 
before, I could see this happening.

Gas extractors aren't currently scored in the code.  I'm dropping code in to 
score them.. Should be fixed int eh next version or two.
