But, that would be weird from the point of view of a VPN that tries to make, by default, any connection secure.
It makes more sense to have all connections going through the VPN, and then exclude some, instead of having nothing going through the VPN and then include some. 🤔
That's not exactly true. There are definitely use cases where you only want to allow one or a few applications to use the VPN while your overall connection remains unhindered.
Downloading a large file with a masked IP while playing a game which requires low latency. Maybe you're serving content through your computer while hiding your browsing activity from your ISP.
I don't really need to argue in favor of the usefulness of this feature as other VPNs have already implemented it (for example ExpressVPN and Surfshark) by user request.

Hey, I just wanted to understand and discuss, not to irritate you.
But I understand, thanks for your explanation...
I hope my comment didn't come across as rude, I was just making that statement plainly. I should probably also add that I'm not trying to suggest that the feature should be reversed outright. But the addition of whitelisting would be great!
See my reply here on why this will likely not be implemented: https://github.com/mullvad/mullvadvpn-app/issues/2808#issuecomment-882594421

Issue description
Really happy to see split tunneling in the app, however it behaves opposite to how I'd like it. Currently you exclude apps from the VPN. I'd instead like to "whitelist" or include apps on the VPN.
