To update on this issue:
The Internet disconnections are now happening far more frequently. Basically every 30-45 minutes, my Internet cuts out and I am unable to do anything. This is isolated to my main computer that has Mullvad, of course; my other laptops and devices are perfectly able to connect to my WiFi without issue. I no longer connect to the VPN anymore. At most, I have Mullvad's client up, but never connected (i.e., red unlocked lock symbol in the taskbar).
Can someone just PLEASE show me how to properly undo the damage that Mullvad has done? This is insane how much of an issue this has become.
It seems that my Internet being disabled is definitely something that Mullvad altered and caused.
I was able to restart my computer and saw that mullvad-daemon.exe was on in Task Manager. So I went in and Disabled it in the Startup Services menu. This caused my Internet to not connect at all, instead of the usual taking 5-10 minutes to connect.
I think this issue may be related to Mullvad's port forwarding somehow?
I used to be able to use Moonlight's "Moonlight Internet Streaming Tool" perfectly fine, but now Mullvad has caused an issue with it. Every time I try to use the tool, I'd get the error mentioning that "The following ports were not forwarded properly: TCP 47984, TCP 47989, UDP 48000"
If you have enabled auto-connect, does disabling it make any difference? It's the only setting (besides lockdown mode) that should influence what happens when you restart your computer.
Also, look for this key in the registry editor (regedit
): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DnsCache\Parameters\DnsPolicyConfig\{d57d2750-f971-408e-8e55-cfddb37e60ae}
. If it exists, delete it.
If you're still seeing problems after uninstalling the app, it's unlikely that they're related to Mullvad.
Im having the same issue. Any updates on this?
I found the solution. You have to uninstall the latest most useless windows update which occurs once in a while when Microsoft need to steal your data then you can get the internet connection back on without Mullvad.
I encounter this on Android all the time. While connected to Mullvad, everything works fine, but when I disconnect from Mullvad, I cannot use the internet at all. Hostnames can just not be resolved anymore. It's like Mullvad changes the DNS settings, but doesn't restore them on an (orderly) disconnect.

I was able to fix it myself. The reason for this behavior was that in the Android VPN settings I had the "Always on" and "Block internet when disconnected from VPN" settings enabled. (I think that I had originally enabled these settings while using another VPN app a few months before switching to Mullvad...)
After disabling these options my normal Internet works fine while disconnected from Mullvad.
Issue report
Operating system: Windows 11
App version: Windows 2022.5
Issue description
Mullvad seems to kill my Internet randomly. If I disconnect Mullvad, I am unable to use my Internet at all (I am having to type through my phone and can confirm my wifi works fine). Sometimes waiting a full 5-10 minutes (which is an absurd amount of time to get my normal Internet usage back) might work.
Restarting my computer takes ridiculously long to regain Internet connection now.
When disconnected, occasionally I cannot access google.com, but can still open reddit.com, yet is unable to load media on there. Weirdly enough, sometimes I'm mid-call on Discord this would happen but the call wouldn't drop. Occasionally, the Discord call would freeze too, indicating that Internet connectivity was disrupted.
Even if uninstalled, Mullvad somehow left my Internet connectivity far, far worse than before. I have begun getting random disconnects even if Mullvad is Uninstaller.
Honestly, at this point, I just want to be able to remove Mullvad and get my normal Internet connectivity again. This has been the most frustrating week having to deal with Mullvad's insane influence on my Internet.
