Here is my current thinking on the retirement investments list.
These are all employer sponsored:
401(k)
403(b)
457 (b) governmental
457 (b) non-governmental
Defined Benefit Plan (pension)
SEP IRA
SIMPLE IRA
Solo 401k
These are created by individuals:
HSA (added with 1st edit)
IRA
Rollover IRA
Inherited IRA
Roth IRA
Inherited Roth IRA
Taxable
There are a few other things that people occasionally add in such as qualified annuity, non-qualified annuity, 401a plans (which may or may not be the same as a defined benefit plan...I just don't know), ESOP and RSUs. There should be an "other" which allows people to type in what kind of account it is rather than choose one from the list.
I do not know where to put 529 plans. In my mind, they are not part of a retirement portfolio but many people will include them anyway. It probably does not matter much because they are usually not a large percentage of the portfolio.
