Client stops sending audio after about 10 seconds windows 10 #3653

Open ALupus opened 5 years ago

ALupus commented 5 years ago

Running the 1.2.19 client on windows 10. I am using ptt, force tcp is enabled. I have tried checking the box for mic exclusivity but that doesnt work either. Pretty sure I have everything set up right because I can press record any time I want and the file comes back with my voice in it as long as I use the ptt key, this also leads me to believe I have the mic permissions set right as well. When I first connect to a server I can transmit audio for about 10 seconds and then after that nothing goes though. I have tried my personal server and a few random public servers to rule out server config issues. Steam voice works fine 100% of the time, so i know its not a mic issue.

davidebeatrici commented 5 years ago

Could you check whether the issue persists with the latest snapshot, please?

ALupus commented 5 years ago

How do I install the latest snapshot? When I click update in the client it says Im on the latest update.

davidebeatrici commented 5 years ago

You can download it from https://mumble.info.

The client says that there aren't updates because you have the latest stable release (1.2.19).

ALupus commented 5 years ago

So I tried the latest snapshot and its still happening. Every one only hears "hey can you" out of "hey can you hear me know" then silence for ever.

davidebeatrici commented 5 years ago

Could you paste here the developer console's log, please?

According to the log the audio system is initialized and after ~3 seconds it is reinitialized two times (when you connect to the server?).

Could you try to apply Mumble's settings (restarts the audio system) after the audio input cuts out and check whether it works or it stops working again after a few seconds, please?

andrewdens commented 5 years ago

I had this exact issue as well. I was able to get it working by setting "Force TCP mode" to on under Configure > Settings > Network > Connection. I recently switched ISP's and apparently AT&T doesn't like UDP mode or whatever. Side note - my friends and I tried Discord and the same thing was happening, so this wasn't mumble related but appears to be an ISP issue for my provider (AT&T).

ALupus commented 5 years ago

@andrewdens I have tcp forced already and I'm still getting this behavior.

ALupus commented 5 years ago

@davidebeatrici
So opened up mumble today and had an update. however the same thing still happened. logged into my server had my friend connect and he was able to hear most of what I said the first transmission. Nothing after that though. When he stopped hearing me I tried opening the settings and just clicking apply and that doesnt seem to do anything. Here is the end of the log.

Have you tried to disable the echo cancellation feature?

ALupus commented 5 years ago

not on the 3.0 client but I have tried that before.

ALupus commented 5 years ago

the issue is still around with echo cancellation off

Jarzka commented 4 years ago

Same issue here. After a few seconds, friends cannot hear me and I cannot hear them. Worked well a few weeks ago and I don't remember changing anything.

If I force TCP, I can connect to the server but the connection is lost after a few seconds.

EDIT: It seems that this issue can be solved temporarily by connecting to the server using LAN IP. Not sure why this happens, but I do remember updating my ASUS router firmware some time ago.

enchained commented 4 years ago

@Jarzka Thanks for the hint, changing to LAN IP helped for the LAN iOS client which stopped hearing others (Win10) clients from the external internet.

I also suspect my ASUS router, but didn't use the LAN mumble server for a while, not after the router change a few months back, so I can't be sure about the culprit. The LAN server setup and clients didn't change since then, but they didn't work today until I tried your hint.

I haven't had such issues with my current remote mumble server, but the machine was down for a while, so I turned to the LAN one. I will post my setup data after I thoroughly test every possible server + pair of clients combos, maybe there's some pattern.

Could you please explain your setup? Are you the only user with mumble server on LAN? Which clients have you tried that had that issue? Which clients do your friends have? Did you always didn't hear each other, or someone might have heard someone else even after 1 minute?

Jarzka commented 4 years ago

My setup is simple. A have a Linux server on my home network, running Mumble server (murmur). My desktop PC is on the same local network. I used to connect to the server from the desktop PC using the external IP address of the server, but recently this started causing the issue of not hearing/being heard shortly after connecting the server. Now I always connect using the LAN ip of the server and it works. My friends always connect from the internet, using the external IP of my server. They have had not problems at all.

I also tested joining a random public Mumble server on the internet and I did not experience any connection / voice problems. Thus, I believe the problem causing this issue is not (directly) related to my Mumble client or my Mumble server, but there might be some problem on my network. The most likely thing is that the latest version of my ASUS router firmware has a bug that suddenly drops the connection for some reason.

Are you the only user with mumble server on LAN? I am the only one who connects to the server using LAN ip, others connect from the internet.

Which clients have you tried that had that issue? / Which clients do your friends have? Me, my friends and the server are all running 1.3.3 (the latest version at the point of writing this). Previously, we were running 1.2.x. So updating mumble did nothing.

Did you always didn't hear each other, or someone might have heard someone else even after 1 minute? It was always me who stopped hearing others / being heard by others 2-5 seconds after connecting. My friends always hear each other.

Thanks for the info. Just in case, my router is ASUS RT-AC66U_B1 and the firmware is Merlin's 384.14_2

My router is AC52U and the firmare is 1.1.2.3_858-gb01e6a7.
