I like this idea in principle, but I believe that online communities need moderation to thrive and that's not something I have the time for (or feel comfortable delegating to others). I'd be absolutely delighted to have other people create and manage a community around the book elsewhere, and would be happy to participate as much as I can. But being in charge of one is more than I can take on while still having time to write and do other stuff.
That's okay :)
I do agree that communities require moderation and it's a lot of work. You've already put a lot of effort in this book and it's completely understandable that you want to avoid the burden of moderating a community.
Thanks a lot for your answer.
I have noticed there is some discussion around the book in the ProgrammingLanguages subreddit. I will try to bring some topics there.
Hi Bob,
Thanks again for this wonderful book. I haven't had this much fun reading a technical book in a very long time!
I have a small suggestion: Since last year GitHub supports discussions. This is like a forum for the project integrated into GitHub itself. I think it would be a nice place for fellow readers to discuss about the book. I would love to ask other Lox implementor how they tackled certain challenges or how the overcame certain implementation language difficulties, etc.
I know some of these discussions are already happening in as issues. But perhaps having a separate place is better for discoverability.
What do you think?
