What is the meaning of "SYNOD" acronym outside of "Spitzer Systematic Noise Decorrelation", which would be "Spitzer SyNoD".
What does SYNOD mean?
Maybe we could change the name to something that's symbolic of the noise patterns or the noise sources? i.e., I named my Spitzer extraction pipeline "wanderer" because the PSF wanders across the detector and because "planeta" is Greek for "wanderer".
Do we have other suggestions for our package's name? And/or could @munozcar describe the name or naming process for SYNOD?
Thank you.
Besides the SyNoD acronym, I did not have a particular meaning in mind. What about "Spitzer LIGHTNING" (LIGHt curve fiTting and Noise decorrelatIoN PackaGe) ? It would make reference to light curves, the jittery patterns in the noise sources, and the speed of our code.
I like LIGHTNING better; it reminds me "Grease LIGHTNING", which I am now positioning as a possible package name:
GreaSE LIGHTNING: Generalized Spitzer Exoplanet LIGHt curve fiTting and Noise decorrelatIoN PackaGe
At the same time, any acronym that uses letters in the middle of words are usually groaned at by the community.
We should pick a theme and then use it for our naming scheme and subsequent puns. Obviously, Laura Kreidberg has chosen comic book heroes. I would prefer Star Wars or LOTR heros.
ChEWBACCAS: Characterizing Exoplanet Worlds with Broad Analysis Calibration Controls for Awesome Science
SOLO: Spitzer Observations of Lightcurve Objects
SKYWALKER: Spitzer Key Yield With All that Lightcurve Exoplanet Research
Because: why not? :)
Yes, we should go with Star Wars names. 😄 I really like SKYWALKER: Spitzer Key Yield With All that Lightcurve Exoplanet Research
Sold! Let's do it! 😄
In addition:
I call my pipeline "Wanderer" because the PSF wanders across the detector; and because "planet" means "wanderer" in greek. So we can pretend that "SKYWALKER" is named after the fact that the PSF seems to walk across the sky (i.e. we are inverting the positional dependence of the psf)
I'm super happy with it.
@kevin218? If you vote yes, then I think we are all happy
Yes to Skywalker!
Yay!
So we should change the name from "Spitzer-SYNOD" to "SKYWALKER", such that the link would be https://github.com/munozcar/SKYWALKER
Is that what you both were thinking as well?
Carlos: Assuming that you are game to change the name: you have the write permissions to change the name / description.
Could you please? I want to add the link into the paper I'm writing.
Thank you,
Jonathan
Cool! Just saw it :D
