I've encountered a bug with items in multiplayer.
Randomly the item can not be used, so you are stuck with the item until the end of the race. This seems to happen exclusively in multiplayer. The controllers are properly configured.
Platform: Raspberry Pi 3, RetroPie 4.1
Emulators: mupen64plus based emulators to date (mupen64plus standalone, lr-mupen (the new one), lr-GlupeN64)(didn't test lr-paraLLEl)
Roms tested: Mario Kart 64 (Europe) (Rev A); Mario Kart 64 (E) (V1.1) [!]
Controller: Hiujia/Mayflash N64 to USB adapter, xboxdrv
