Any interest in flatpak?
It's a great/easy way to distribute an app on linux without worrying which distribution it will run on.
An initial pull request to get it posted on flathub (an "app center" for flatpak) is here:

If it gets accepted, a git respository with the mupen64plus flatpak bits will get created. Assuming that happens, I'd be happy to give access/ownership to the mupen64plus team.
