Write a draft introduction section. There could be many ways to take this, but one promising narrative is:

• Mobility is important to science
• Understanding mobility requires understanding proximity
• Current approaches to measuring proximity are insufficient
• We present a new way to model proximity, show that it performs well, and has many potential applications
