Definition of an infinite canvas #160

I was looking for some Infinite Canvas on the Web when I stumbled upon this specific website. Quite happy, I deep dive and realize that most of those are not actually infinite, like Excalidraw for example. 400%, 3000%, or whatever is indeed a good start, but there is a clear difference between infinite and big when organizing ideas.

I am currently still looking for an actual real one and thought that this part of the website was quite misleading as a whole.

The infinite canvas is the foundation of a new class of apps from design tools, to code editors, and workspaces.

@kissu what do you mean misleading and how would you change it?

kissu commented 3 months ago

It's misleading because not "infinite", as simple as that. I haven't checked them all but only Endless Paper is truly infinite in the lot.

Quick example of an infinite canvas: https://youtu.be/GeEISHh37lY?si=UIBRKf_uQV8KhGyN

Anything else is simply a "big canvas" that you can move any directions around.

There might be a slight difference in regards as of what is an "infinite scrolling viewport" from an "infinitely zoomable because vector scalable canvas". Even muse says it well

Endless canvas zooming or rotation? Nay

At the same time, I guess that this is common knowledge for people now. 99% of them just use the term wrongly. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Mains problems that I see for a true "infinite" wording is mostly:

So yeah, maybe not misleading because everybody confuses it. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Guess nvm, we can close this and keep calling it INFINITE since everybody does. 🫠

Ahmni also has infinite zoom as of version 1.21.0. Still waiting to merge PR #145, though.
