State of Toggle Buttons in Several Toolbar Panels Not Reported by Screen Readers #16747

Issue type

UI bug

Bug description

The state of toggle buttons in at least the notation, playback and note input toolbar panels (and possibly in other places--further testing is required) are not reported by Windows screen readers. More testing is required to determine whether this behavior occurs on macOS and/or Linux.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch screen reader of choice (testing limited to Windows; further testing required on macOS and Linux).
  2. Launch MS 4.
  3. Create/open score.
  4. Focus any toolbar panel mentioned above.
  5. Select toggle button such as "metronome;" screen reader reports some form of "Metronome button Toggle metronome playback."
  6. Activate/deactivate button using enter. Notice that state has changed.
  7. Reselect toggle button using left then right arrow (or reverse); notice that screen reader reports the same text. In other words, it is not reporting the on/off or checked/unchecked state of the button.

I can confirm this is an issue. I have the same experience when I use a screen reader.
