If a grace note in one staff is placed over a rhythm in another staff which happens before the grace note it can look like both rhythms happen at the same time (if they are vertically aligned).
To make it look better, extra leading space can be added before the grace note so it looks like it happens after the rhythm in the other staff instead of with it.
Problem to be solved
grace notes line up with other rhythms which happen before the grace which does not look accurate
If the graces right before a beat are placed after all the regular rhythms before that beat, it could be easier to read.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is done to save space, since grace notes don't have a fixed rhythmic value they don't have to follow the same spacing rules
