I requested this on Zendesk many months ago and the Muse Sounds team said that they'll look into adding it.
So good to know. I suspect it will take some time to find solo voice samples to add to MuseSounds. Unfortunately, even the MS Basic 128 voice default .SF3 soundfont used by MS 3.6 also does not have solo voices. I have had to find a free soundfont with a solo voice and load it into 3.6 in the song I am working on. It is not exactly what I am after but it will have to do. Hopefully, MuseSounds will add solo voices soon. Maybe this new post will spur them on a bit.
I couldn't even find solo voices when I looked, not for free anyway, it was all choir. And the solo, it was like I either get this expensive sound that I can't afford and which only has 1 solo voice type, hardly sufficient for the lieder and operas I transcribe, or I make my own on Polyphone. But that second one requires that I know some lieder singers and opera singers and can record their ranges so that I can have Solo Soprano (Lieder), Solo Soprano (Opera) etc. and I don't, the only voice I have to record is my own, which is an alto voice more suited for lieder than operas, but even then, not the best.
To be clear, MS Basic - along with every other General-MIDI-compatible soundfont - does have solo voices, They are used by default if you select "Voice" as your instrument. But it's a largely synthesized sound of course, so it maybe the lack of realism fools you into thinking it's not meant to be solo? There are actually too such sounds: "voice oohs" and "synth voice", and you can select between them using a split version of the soundfont such as the one I make available for download. By MuseScore 4.2 it should be possible to do this directly within the stock MS Basic as well.
Anyhow, also be aware that Muse Sounds doesn't work by "finding" sounds - they record their own. And the real complication of course is, few people want generic "ooh" sounds for voice, they want actual lyrics. So a complex AI problem there. But no doubt someone will solve it.
Further discussion of possible technologies and alternatives should take place elsewhere, such as in the forums, though.
Marc: Thanks for the update. I do use "Voice Ooohs" and on occasion, I have tried "Synth Voice". I also have your split soundfont addon running in MS4, so I can select them, but they are not too good at simulating a solo voice realistically. I do hope that MuseSounds will be able to record solo versions of the separate voice types soon, along with Ooohs and Aaahs, so we can use them.
Thanks for the updates. The problem with most of the voice sounds in Midi or even the MuseSounds is, that the quality of the voice is too soft. Thinking of classical solo voices which are trained to be heard very clearly while singing with a big orchestra, the MuseSounds and MIDI sounds need a more penetrating tone of voice. In MS 3.6. I used the woodwinds sounds replacing the voices. But this doesn't work with MS 4.1, because the range of the instruments doesn't fit to a tenor solo voice exactly.
Hod does that go along with: Funny enough that doesn't match the English text at all:
And as we all know, it doesn't work until now. ;-)
Your idea
Many many songs include a solo performance by a soprano or alto or baritone or ... I hoped that MuseSounds would include a solo voice as it does with most other instruments, but it does not. When opening the MuseSounds Choir instruments tab via the Mixer menu, there is NO option to select a single solo voice in any vocal type. Many other instruments do allow for a solo instrument.
Problem to be solved
Now, singing tracks using Oooh or Aaah via the MuseSounds are all choir voices. There is no option to select a single solo vocal to play in a score. Adding it via either MuseSounds or the MS Basic Soundfonts option would eliminate this weakness.
Prior art
Please add solo voices to the MuseSounds choir choices.
