Cross-instrument notation for percussion instruments #21170

Open impossibleguy opened 9 months ago

impossibleguy commented 9 months ago

Your idea

Cross staff notation currently seems to be arbitrarily limited to pitched instruments, when it is frequently also used for unpitched percussion scores.

Problem to be solved

The inability to beam percussion parts across staves.

I second this proposal, it would be very useful. There is already plenty of scores using cross staff notation in percussion, in those cases when there is only one player for an entire set, and that would be a very nice feature to add.

Exactly @oktophonie, but is this already possible between different playback instruments? Because I guess you can already do it graphically by going into the instruments menu (F7) and adding a staff to the selected instrument; however, this way you can only use the same sound for all the related staves, correct?

You can currently cross-stave only between staves within the same instrument, so the example I posted would only be possible at all if it were a single instrument with 7 staves. For percussion, specifically, that's a challenge for various reasons just now (hence this issue); enabling cross-staffing arbitrarily over staves of different instruments would be something else entirely.
