We can even go further: as well as this request, which is very useful in its own right, I'd love a 'Mark as editorial' toggle which works for pretty much any type of item, and where you can configure its representation for each type (e.g. articulations or accidentals get square brackets, text is italicised/unitalicised, slurs and ties are dotted or get a stroke through, etc. etc.)
Your idea
Add support for bracket types ((), []) for all articulations (marcato, arco, etc.) to indicate optional inclusion
Problem to be solved
Often we encounter scores where certain articulations are meant to be optional, but there is no standardized way to indicate this in MuseScore. This lack of clarity can lead to inconsistent interpretations and increased rehearsal times, as performers need to clarify the composer's intentions. By allowing optional bracket types for articulations, MuseScore can provide a clear visual cue for optional elements, enhancing both practice and performance experiences.

Additional context
There are alternative ways, such as using text boxes and manually adjusting them to the articulation, but when exporting the parts, the text boxes become misaligned and go outside the staff margin, so it is not effective.
