Support for the Japanese-style segno and coda #24619

Your idea

Allow to add Japanese-style segno and coda symbols from the palette. image image

Problem to be solved

In Japanese sheet music, Japanese-style Segno and Coda symbols are commonly used. However, in MuseScore, these symbols cannot be added from the Master Palette, so users need to copy and paste them from here instead. They should be made available from the Palette or Master Palette, and should be automatically positioned in the same way as the standard Segno and Coda symbols.

In the current version, there is a bug where Japanese-style Segno and Coda symbols disappear even when added via copy and paste.

(I'm Japanese, so my English might not be perfect. Please excuse any mistakes I might make.)

IIRC it is currently impossible in MuseScore to use any of the SMuFL stylistic alternatives.

IIRC it is currently impossible in MuseScore to use any of the SMuFL stylistic alternatives.

Is there a possibility that SMuFL stylistic alternates will be supported in the future?

sammik commented 3 weeks ago

I think, stylistic alternates need to be added to font itself first.

oktophonie commented 3 weeks ago

The SMuFL spec only 'recommends' certain alternates for glyphs. There's nothing to say you have to include them, nor to say you couldn't include additional ones, or alternates for other glyphs entirely.

So what's needed is a general mechanism to specify when/whether to use alternates for a given symbol in the font currently being used.
