Percussion Icons #25459

Your idea

There are a standard set of pictograms for percussionists, which can be used in place of, or simultaneously with, the instrument name. The "Change instrument" button in the text palette should have the pictograms option when used for percussion. Often the pictogram will appear (on continuation pages) above the instrument name. There should be options in "Styles" to "Show Percussion Pictograms" and "Hide Instrument name if pictograms are shown".

Problem to be solved

Percussion pictograms cannot be notated in Musescore.

Additional context

There would be two paths of formatting for pictograms, one for the instrument name in the left margin of the score, which would be treated like the text instrument name and be immovable; and another for use like staff text or lines, in the score itself. When Change Instrument is selected for percussion, the text would appear as it already does; but once an instrument is selected, then the name appears followed by the pictogram, which is treated like a Wingding text element.

Percussion pictograms technically can be notated in MuseScore

The pictograms are in the special characters and you can replace the change instrument text with them

I understand; I am asking that Musescore make the assigning of percussion pictograms automatic, controllable by a setting in "Style".
