I see that there has been no activity for this addon since November 12th 2023, just wondering where and how you are.

king-dahmanus commented 4 months ago

Hey. Don't worry. I've been in contact with the author of this project and he told me that the new update will come around the official launch of nvda 2024.1. I'm also dying to get my hands on those sweet, sweet little realtime voices :)

mikebayus commented 4 months ago

So am I to understand that as soon as the stable version of NVDA V2024.1 comes out the Piper TTS addon will be updated as well?

I don't know if I can wate.

I stil need that update to come out to fix voices name during installation. I also want the ability to add additional repositories a longside the official default one.

mikebayus commented 3 months ago

NVDA 2024.1.RC1 is now out. Are you still going to make us wait for the stable version?

king-dahmanus commented 3 months ago

The author seems to be busy, as he hasn't replied to us in our private tts group, however @rmcpantoja is maintaining a fork of the addon, and will be fixing the issues found in the newest beta that had been prepared for 2024.1, so if @mush42 doesn't return, @rmcpantoja will take up the mantle.

mikebayus commented 3 months ago

Good to know.

The Author seems to have dropped the ball. I hope he's O.K.

I'll keep checking the "Releases" page.

I hope he's just busy training models or doing something, and not something worse.

mikebayus commented 3 months ago

I know he teaches at University, perhaps that is keeping him busy.

I just hope he is not ill.

Whether that or the war situation on his end.

mikebayus commented 3 months ago

If and when @rmcpantoja does come up with a new release of the Piper Neural TTS Voices for NVDA, would I find a link to it on the "Releases" page?

Or would I find it in the NVDA Add-on Store?

When I was running NVDA V2023.4 I used Piper voices pretty much exclusively, and I do miss them.

I now have NVDA V2024.1-RC1, and I am using Acapela Voices.

Good but not as good as Piper.

I honestly forgot I had this add on installed, because it just didn't work for me at all. I hope to see it grow in future. Either that or use either RVC voices, or Eleven Labs API in some way. Apparently if you utilize an open project for generations of audio text you feed to Eleven Labs, you don't use your quota for character counts there. It's sad that nobody has been able to port over Tortoise TTS functionality yet as far as AI voices goes. It's a whole brand new market for NVDA to utilize, but alas, we're still stuck with closed source models for speech that, true to word, have aged like fine whine. But, need to be considered as classic backups to modern technology out today. I'm sorry to hear that there's a war going on in the country the developer of this ADD ON lives in. I hope they're doing okay. I know what it's like to struggle, juggle and multitask. Pro Tip: apparently Claude AI 3 Opus is extremely useful for coding 3 times as much as GPT4 is right now, if it helps speed up development. Its particular expertise are in python scripts and creating interlocking one-filers as Claude can work with Git Hub repositories directly as well as some staging directories for testing things out. It totally cuts down on AI generated hallucinations when adding this into the workspace so that it isn't likely to overstep its own code there. The problem with ChatGPT4 in this respect, is that it forgets what it's doing half way through due to its caching for user queries being severely restricted to where it doesn't even output basic PHP files anymore even after integrating code bases through its plugins area. And I hear that's going away, so very sad news for Open AI. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I as a user, and supporter of this project, appreciate it highly.

here it is! NVDA 2024.1. So will we now get a stable release of Piper Neural TTS Voices for NVDA, or will we still be in Beta? I have been using NVDA 2023.4, so I can still have Piper voices because they work great for me, and when I tried out NVDA 2024.1 Betas, I was able to use Acapela, but the Piper TTS voices are so much better especially for reading long documents, or books that are 100 pages or more. I am trying to wait, but as I have said earlier in this thread, it is really hard to wait.

I am just an end user of NVDA, and not a programer, so I really don't know what to try or how to get Piper V2.0 Beta 2 to work with NVDA 2024.1.

Do you all think it will now work with the override feature now that NVDA is a stable version again?

rmcpantoja commented 3 months ago

Hi @mikebayus and all, 2024.1 official compatibility is coming soon. I'm doing this contribution because @mush42 back (as I understood): https://github.com/mush42/piper-nvda/pull/40

mikebayus commented 3 months ago

Thank you so much. Will there be a link on the release page? Let us know when it is up, and where to find the download.

Elshara commented 2 months ago

So far nothing yet.
