Can not find secrets file on Nexus 4 Android 4.2.2 #123

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. device : Nexus 4
2. OS : 4.2.2
3. Connect to PC
4. Open App, press Export
 - app reports file created
(or 3 and 4 in other order)
5. Look for / search for file "secrets"
6. Can not find file

have always found the file on my previous device (HTC Desire) but that had an
SD card

Not sure if it is the way "Internal Memory" is mounted on PC is causing problem
(ie not able to see file) , or whether it is actually failing to be created

Make sure that the USB computer connection mode is set correctly by doing the
following:

1/ start the "Settings" apps
2/ tap "Storage"
3/ tap MENU and select "USB computer connection"
4/ Under "Connect as", make sure that "Media device (MTP)" is selected
5/ exit the Settings app

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the very quick response.

Firstly I use you app all the time for all my "secrets" so thanks for
providing it. And I'll continue to use it even if I can't get the clear
text export to work.

I had tried all (both) the USB connection options (on Android 4 it's just a
toggle between MTP and camera connection (which provides little more than
access to DCIM))

I think this may be an issue with the Nexus 4 that only provides access to
"internal storage" and possibly not where the file is actually stored

Thanks for the kind words.

When I connect my Nexus 4 to a Macbook Air (in MTP mode), I see a window pop up
and the secrets backup file is shown there. However doing the same does not
seem to work on my Ubuntu box. Maybe you can try another machine?

Tried another Windows box
 - same result (get the normal android folders, but nothing from secrets
(looking for both "secrets" from backup and "secrets.csv" from export ) )

Sorry no easy access to another OS to try at the moment

I know this is a fairly old issue but FWIW I ran into the same issue with a
Galaxy Nexus. It seems that you can't reliably see files that are in the root
of the file system (MTP mode), at least from windows.

The workaround is to use a app like Astro to move it into another folder.

(Had forgotten about this ..)
But YES you are correct the file is there (thank you EX File Explorer) and
Windows does not see it

Moving it to another folder ("Music") and hey presto it's there ...

Nice to have my secrets backed up again (off device)
