Can't no longer login with gmail #8

Open polsust opened 2 years ago

Error: IMAP command 'LOGIN ' returned an error: NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)

I think it's due to less secure app access from Google being disabled by default image

Any way to get around this? Or is it just dead for gmail now?

Hi @PolSust Try to create an App Password for mutt and use it as your account password. I have done this since 2021 and everything works fine.

@marianomarciello What do you mean? Can you detail the steps, please?

Hotmail sent me a message a couple months about that they were moving to OUATH2 too and they'd be periodically sending me such messages until I set up "more secure" authentication (yeah, more secure than established encryption standards; seems legit) until they finally disable "less secure" authentication in September 2024. I went ahead and set up an app password there hoping it would be good enough (I tried OAUTH2 when fetchmail added support and it's a major PITA; you have to regularly use a web browser to get new tokens: app passwords are so much less o a hassle). I haven't gotten a message since, so I guess the app password was good enough, like it was for Gmail.
