I was able to follow this article easily. My only problem was that when I tried to import the HMTL files back into Apple Notes 4.8.1 (1872) on Big Sur 11.5.2, Apple notes shows all the HTML markup!

Yes, that is a problem. If you do not have many notes, you can open each one with a browser (Safari did not work well for me, Firefox instead works well) and copy and paste in a new note.

I always used the automator as a backup in case my notes are deleted from iCloud for whatever reason. I would not suggest to use it to migrate to a new account, for intance.

I think copying the sqlite database should give better results, but I never tried.

This script is from Bear notes app. It's their way of helping users migrate from Apple Notes to Bear: https://bear.app/faq/Import%20&%20export/Migrate%20from%20Apple%20Notes/

Thanks, that is why I could not find the source, they did not post the entire code in their page! I will add the reference to this article.
