Radical Number Search support *feature request* #870

One problem I often notice is the AEDict will often mention that a particular Kanji is a radical usually saying something similar to Character is radical number Nnn.

But you cant search by radical number in AEDict search bar. It would be useful if we could. It may also be useful to have a chart of all the radicals and their number. Also if the dictionary mentions a radical it would be useful if we could click the entry and be taken to that entry for the radical. Also when drawing Kanji to search for Kanji that are radicals only, if they are not common they dont get located. But copying the radical directly into the search bar locates them.

See attached screenshot.

Searching by typing Radical 125 in search wont bring up the radical. screenshot_20190307-075607-01

Hi!

One problem I often notice is the AEDict will often mention that a particular Kanji is a radical usually saying something similar to Character is radical number Nnn. But you cant search by radical number in AEDict search bar. It would be useful if we could.

That's not possible at the moment, but what you can do is that you can open the kanji details, scroll to the "Radical" tab and touch the kanji. That will bring you to the radical detail screen; from that you can see all kanjis that contain that particular radical (in the "Junctures" tab).

If you wish to "bookmark" the radical for later use, you can add it to the Notepad easily.

Please let me know what use-case are you trying to achieve - why do you need to search the radical by the radical number?

It may also be useful to have a chart of all the radicals and their number.

The radical table can be found for example here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_radicals_in_Unicode

Also if the dictionary mentions a radical it would be useful if we could click the entry and be taken to that entry for the radical.

If a kanji mentions a radical in the Entry Detail Screen, just touch that kanji. That will open details of that particular kanji; now by scrolling to the "Radical" tab you can see the details of that particular radical; by touching the radical a new screen will be opened which will list full details of that particular radical.

Also when drawing Kanji to search for Kanji that are radicals only, if they are not common they dont get located. But copying the radical directly into the search bar locates them.

If the radical does not show stroke order diagram then you can't find it via kanji drawing. Only those kanjis that have stroke order diagram can be found via kanji drawing. The Stroke Order Diagrams are maintained in the KanjiVG project - please feel free to add the missing drawings for the radicals. Once a new version is published, I will make sure to update the kanji drawing algorithm to include newly added kanjis.
