First off, THANKS for doing the donkey work to put this project together. I've forked it and have been adding some extra functionality that our own usage requires.

Question: would you like a batch of pull requests for the stuff I've added? Or would you prefer to keep your copy stripped down to only the stuff you're using?

Great, thank you. I'm glad somebody else has found it useful.

I'd like it to become a generally useable gem for Office files, so any functionality in that direction would be appreciated.

Just out of interest, if you can say, what sort of stuff are you using it for?

I'm lead dev for http://www.labradorom.com/ - we're getting asked for exports of wine lists to a format that our accounts can edit. In practice, that means Word.

I'll tidy up some of what I've done into a series of pull requests when I get a few minutes.
