Pop-Ups/Info Ticker #590

What enhancement or feature would you like?
A Pop-Up/Info Ticker added for Fullscreen video

How would you expect it to work? Can you illustrate it with examples such
as images or scenarios?

Let's say you are watching F-R-I-E-N-D-S, and you get to the episode where Pete
(Monica's rich boyfriend) becomes a bad UFC fighter. Well that episode starts
with a surprise visit from Robin WIlliams and Billy Crystal to the coffee
house. Well at that point in the episode a ticker bar drops down with the
scrolling text "This conversation between Robin and Billy was completely
ad-lib. Two true comics at their finest..."

Here is how I would see you making it work:

Go to TVS Config... tab to the library.... find the episode you want to add a
pop-up to... right click episode and choose "Add Pop-Up"... a new window
appears where you can place the time and text for the pop-up... save or add
another pop-up.

Please provide any additional information below.

This feature is coming out built into DVDa/BRs and is becoming quite the rage.
Each DVD/BR has a file with the text and times, and those could be imported or
people can create their own. I have seen 1 that had the pop-up info built into
the video, but not many. All digital copies that you can get have the info file.

There is no enhancement required for this, just use the subtitle function.

A few select DVDs and Blu-Rays indeed contain a seperate subtitle track for
this. Most of the time this is part of the subtitles for the director's
commentary track, but there are some seperate tracks for some movies. If you
use bitmap-based subtitles you can even create them in baloon form, but
text-based subtitles are a lot of fun as well. As long as you have the splitter
installed correctly then MediaPortal has no problem showing subtitles like that
while your media is playing.

You can also use a program such as Subtitle Workshop to create your own
text-based subtitles to add information and factoits. Possible even setup a
forum thread to share them with others.

There is even a cable channel that used to rebroadcast movies like that with
factoids shown throughout, think it was AMC.

RoChess, this will work if you are watching with regular subtitles? It will pop
up at the top?

Bitmap-based subtitles can be places anywhere on the screen, so if you have
existing subtitles, you can merge the factoid subtitles into this and position
them at the top.

You can also merge text-based subtitles together, on seperate lines, or
inbetween the regular subs (if time permits). The latter can be done with
Subtitle Workshop, but I have no idea regarding bitmap-based subtitle editors.
