This has bitten me a few times and it is very painful... another possible solution would be to allow people to autosave?

Thank you for the report. I fully agree - this is really annoying UX. I did actually attempt to implement this at some point in the current version of the site, but some technical issue made me skip it.

I've started building v2 of the site which includes a rebuild of the frontend. I will make sure that this UX is correct here.
