Started a doc or potential orgs to reach out to here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1d6Pn37_hSBoQxUtVemZoCI5F0XeqB0H_WvN4nyLbHYk/edit#gid=0
Can't remember what the status of this is. Seems like we've got a handful of organisations. I think we should do something here in an attempt to get better at using current affairs to promote use of the sites.
We discussed at Bath team meeting. Here are the relevant notes:
'EU referendum: we shouldn’t do any special tools but we should definitely send a newsletter out pointing people towards Full Fact, AsktheEU, Democracy Club (if doing polling stations?). This could be added to the next newsletter or be its own edition. '
Action for @MyfanwyNixon ?
Its own newsletter, I reckon. What do you think the best timing would be?
We only have two best requests (https://github.com/mysociety/alaveteli-experiments/issues/18) from AskTheEU. Would be good to get at least 3 more.
Its own newsletter, I reckon.
+1
What do you think the best timing would be?
EU authorities are supposed to reply within 15 days, so I'd say a minimum of 20 days before the event. Lets call it June 1st; but really the sooner the better.
Yeah, I'd be happy to ferret aorund for some more with AccessInfo's help!
Timing: Perhaps aim for a month before referendum - so 23rd May? If not before.
OK, I've put a note in my calendar for 23 May and will nudge you if I need more input then.
In the end, we posted a blog post and sent out a newsletter via MailChimp to 21,636 people.
Since sending out the newsletter on 16 May 2016 to today's date (14 June 2016), there have only been 24 clicks (22 being unique) through to AsktheEU.org from the newsletter.
It looks like 32 sessions came from the newsletter - with one person going on to make a request.
It doesn't look as though any traffic came from AsktheEU from the blog post.
Disappointing. It's possible that repeat messages would have had a bigger effect.
Also, my gut instinct is that it requires a big leap for the general public to make an FOI request and maybe they need more hand-holding than a line in a newsletter.
Q: Can we drive traffic from campaigning orgs/news outlets in UK covering upcoming EU referendum?
[Explain how you will measure this]
More inbound links from organisations contacted. More mentions of AsktheEU on Google Alerts
[What do we need to do to be able to take the measurements?]
Write to organisations covering EU ref to let them know they can ask EU bodies for info/ask if they can display link to AsktheEU on their site. E.g. Full Fact
