As that sounds like a WDTK related issue, should WDTK-only tickets be here or under WDTK? I made a ticket of WDTK display issues over at https://github.com/mysociety/whatdotheyknow/issues/45 - I can repost it here if that's where it should be.

no, you're right, this should probably be there - i wanted to make a note of the issue at the end of the day before i forgot it & didn't have time to check if it was the theme or in the core site....

Turns out it is in alaveteli core.
