Faceted Search #518

Many of the different requests for search & browse come down to the need for a faceted searching & browsing interface. This is my conclusion that comes from reading the various different things people want in issue #194

The facets that are perhaps most useful are: a) Operator name b) Problem status c) Proximity to location d) Mode

Is there a way to get "recent issues" to appear in chronological (or reverse-chronological) order? Or give us a search box to find issues?

Right now, the top issues are: Fix this: Too small a train -
3/11/11 Improve Sunday service trains from Wimbledon - 7/12/11
Brook lane bus stop does it exist - 6/01/12 Please help to stop
others being hurt when doors are closed on tubes - 6/01/12 Sort
their appaling service out - 9/01/12 Clean Up Their Act! - 10/12/11

It's not alphabetical, it's not chronological, it's apparently
random and of little value for users.

We came to the conclusion that adding a search facility would help enormously. All the data is there, but adding a search would overcome such problems as whether something is listed under Middlesbrough to Whitby; Whitby to Middlesbrough; or Scarborough to Middlesbrough, with Whitby en route. Also makes irrelevant whether a service is listed as regional or national - and it would open the possibility of identifying wider issues, such as problems with wheelchair access, across different operators and regions.
