My response:
My belief (and if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone else in the team will jump in to correct me) is that this was a measure designed to minimise the number of people who would reply to an alert email, thinking their response would go to the operator when in fact it would go to FixMyTransport.

Thanks, that would explain it. It might be nice to have a word of explanation in the email, too, perhaps.

I like FixMyTransport but I was slightly disappointed that the email I got to notify me that the transport operator had (auto)replied didn't include the text of the reply, simply a link to FMT.
