Next steps

Background

As a local authority climate officer I want to see how residents are engaging with Neighbourhood Warmth and analyse patterns of activity so that I can understand opportunities to enable maximum progress towards our climate targets and broader aims e.g. by convening stakeholders at events tailored to local needs. [Example query: "Total users grouped by Lower Super Output Area."]

As a community organisation I want to estimate how many people are interested in different types of home energy services to inform our plans to support them e.g. by setting up a First Thermal franchise. [Example query: "Users who have been at Step 3 of Challenge 1 for longer than 30 days, within 5km of a custom location."]

As a distribution network operator I want to integrate data from people engaging with Neighbourhood Warmth in our area of operation so that we can tune the predictive analytics we use to plan changes to infrastructure in response to changing patterns of energy use. [Example query: "Rate of change of total users active on heat pump challenge in custom set of Middle Layer Super Output Areas."

Implementation tasks

Leaving the DNO user story as is above but caught a presentation from this project @ Innovate UK’s Ofgem SIF Round 2 Discovery Show & Tell session on Improving system efficiency – https://www.frontier-economics.com/uk/en/news-and-articles/news/news-article-i10271-pioneering-thermal-efficiency-measures-for-electricity-networks/

Sounds like they're work identifies areas of highest potential for DNOs to fund retrofit to defer or eliminate the need for grid reinforcement, and at least some of those areas span multiple local authority areas and aren't necessarily congruent with them.

I'll approach this person to see if we can get a clearer picture and/or some data to play with: https://www.frontier-economics.com/uk/en/about/people/person-i1464-alex-whittaker/

@sequencefree funnily enough I tried to get to find DNO boundary data for the Local Intelligence Hub a few weeks back – https://github.com/mysociety/local-intelligence-hub/issues/274 – looks like the data might be available, but I didn’t have the time/expertise to verify 🤔
