15/09/23 email from Louise – Subject: Update on YIF Energy pilot
I had a useful conversation with Gen yesterday about the YIF Energy pilot. Apparently Sophie had got the wrong end of the stick when Siôn and I spoke to her and she talked about the thing they would be looking for quotes for as the feasibility studies for local heat networks. Gen clarified that what SIB will be looking for proposals for is not the feasibility studies (they already have someone lined up to do that) but just the community engagement part, which they're trying to get confirmation can extend to FY2025. This would involve working with the YIF grantee in each area to talk to people about the possibility of the heat network, probably with workshops - and using something like Neighbourhood Warmth to give them info and sign them up, and let them organise themselves around it, which makes it feel a bit more completely in our wheelhouse.
I think worth having a mull over whether we'd consider doing a solo quote for this, or whether it would make sense to partner. We can pick up next week.
@zarino Just chatting to Louise to clarify whether we need a partner for this and sounds like that'll be easier to work out once more information unlocked from SIB board discussions. So no need to chase nesta.

@crowbot Do you have some more information on likely locations of this if it goes ahead please?
@juliacush Above might be useful to explore crossover with your work.

Sorry, not yet - SIB will likely be offering grantees the chance to participate and seeing who takes that up.
We think 3 YIF grantees would be selected, and mySociety's role would be to be the mechanism for those grantees to engage their communities to consider joining a heat network.
