I actually decided to leave the obol conundrum as-is and instead opted to put a hint by the opal eye about what the Grue wants to hear so that the player can strategically choose their answers (without molewhole bonus or penalty since they're just talking, after all).

hang on a tic -- I forgot in my balance spreadsheet that some sanity and molewhole mods are mutually exclusive; I'll need to take that into consideration
we've also got some unintentionally tricksy bits like the fact that you can wind up with a higher overall gain to shovelry if you make the caterpillar a caged butterfly and then fix it by making him a fuzzy caterpillar anew; this results in -1 for the thoughtless init transformation, +2.5 for wanting to fix it (liberation), and another +2.5 for the fuzzy transform for a total net gain of 4. The fixit liberation business doesn't even cost sanity since there is a sanity cost baked into the fuzzy transform.
I like this progression, but maybe the numbers should be tweaked so that the butterfly business is a wash of neg and pos mods e.g. -1 initially and then +1 on the fix, so you wind up with net +2.5 as if you had done the fuzzy thing to begin with. That would make things simpler to balance since we're trying to consider mods only in terms of pos and neg rather than examining all possible choice branch combinations, so branches that railroad you into both pluses and minuses that aren't zero-sum could be complicated to support.

todo: make sure code matches up with sanity and molewhole mods at the relevant sources and we should be good for a you will at least go pretty insane if not very insane if you achieve either full paragon or renegade without the obol
gotta small insanity issue -- I forgot to factor in ooze daughter slaughter to min(ish) evil path, so with the obol we wind up at 45 sanity when it should be 50
idea is that you can only reach top good or bad status with the odditine obol (to halve the sanity cost) and by doing only all the worst or best stuff (focus paragon or renegade)
