[x] Sync and update the code with the new upstream.
[x] Check if everything is fully backwards compatible with GNOME 40 or if this requires a new major version of this extension.

I checked the diff of GNOME Shell 40.4 with 41 and there seem to be no changes that affect the code of this extension. Also @ebeem tested the extension with 41.rc1 and it worked fine.

I'll release a new version that supports GNOME Shell 41 with the same codebase.
