I propose possibly looking at the MinervaNeue theme that is built in to Wikipedia already and edit some of it to fit this theme, as it is very suitable to the material design. At the very least, some elements may be ported or made into a separate theme available to users. I have attached some prototype edits to suit this theme. If this comes into consideration, I also suggest editing the page width for not only the main page, but all slide menus as well (I would have done so already but I don't have time).
