External MicroDVD *.sub files are not loaded with 3.0.0.211 #131

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Put movies.mkv (no embedded subtitles) and movies.sub in the same folder.
2. Using MPC-HC (with DirectVobSub in External Filter section set to Prefer,
and internal subtitle renderer disabled), open the movies.mkv.
3. MPC-HC will play the video, but without the subtitle.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected output: Subtitle file should be loaded. Instead, no subtitles appears.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Used the installer at
http://xy-vsfilter.googlecode.com/files/xy-VSFilter_3.0.0.211_Installer.exe

Using Windows 8.

Please provide any additional information below.
Same thing also happens with PotPlayer. BTW, the ISR in both MPC_HC and
PotPlayer works just fine. Splitter is Haali Media Splitter and LAV Splitter
Source.

Why is that the vsfilter-based MPC-HC ISR works then? Lack of support for .sub
files the way MPC-HC can do is fatal. .sub files are quite common out there.

The video I made myself (a BD rip), only the language .sub is a European one
(Polish) grabbed from opensubtitles website, for testing.

> DirectVobSub in External Filter section set to Prefer

With PotPlayer "DirectVobSub (auto-loading version)" needs to be set to Prefer
have external subtitles loaded.

VOBSUB (bitmap subtitles) do require a .sub & .idx in the same folder.

Were these text-based subtitles? Please attach the subtitle which won't load.
I'm thinking you may have MicroDVD .sub subtitles. If so, this is our mistake
because we forgot that a the MicroDVD text based format used the same .sub
extension as VOBSUB.

Does running the attached registry file resolve the problem? That should re-add
"sub" to LOAD_EXT_LIST which was something new added in 3.0.0.211.

Yes, after the reg file was merged, the .sub now works. Thanks.

We'll make sure this is corrected in our next release.

In the mean-time, anybody else who runs into the problem with external MicroDVD
*.sub files in 3.0.0.211 not loading, please apply the registry file attached
to Comment #7.

This fix for loading external MicroDVD *.sub files is included in our
XySubFilter 3.1.0.546 Beta release.
