Word and character count in section of source code #1493

In journal papers, the titles are often restricted to a certain number of 
characters and the abstracts are restricted to a certain number of words. It 
would be helpful to have a feature that lets you count the number of words and 
characters in a selected area of the pdf. If that's not feasible, counting in a 
selected area of the source file would still be helpful, as abstracts and 
titles contain many less latex commands than the body text does, so the total 
would still be pretty accurate.
