APM2.5 - ArduCopter 2.7-- compass two different headings depending which direction I turned #462

Arducopter traditional Heli (T-Rex 450)
Hardware:APM2.5
Software:ArduCopter 2.7 - Mission planner 1.2.1

Settings: No autodeclination, manual declination of 21

Heli is placed on the table pointing SW.
If I turn the heli by hand to the right to NW and back to SW, the compass stops
at SW and then ticks slowly past SW to almost S and then stops. If I do the
same procedure the other way round, SW to SE and back to SW, the compass stops
at SW and then starts drifting slowly past SW to W and then stops. There are
two different headings at the end, depending which direction I turned.
At the Mission Planer on the Quick Tab you can see the Yaw indicator ticking
0.1 deg. at the time drifting away. The Heli stands still, no motor is running.

I expect the compass to stop and indicate heading SW and not slowly drifting
away past SW to S or W, depending which direction I turned before.

An additional observation on the issue:
Placing the switched of heli on the table heading SW. After switching on and
AMP initialising the compass heading shows 150 and then it starts drifting
about 1deg/sec towards 225(SW) and stops after about 2 min at heading 229.

you do setup - erase and setup - reset from the console?
Did you restart controller after enable compass?
Did you perform the calibration procedure the compass and receive 3 ofsets?
check by touristic mechanical compass direction of magnetic fields on the
desktop?

I went through your recommendations, still the same.

After that, I checked the compass in the “Mission Planer Terminal test
Compass” everything is fine there, point the heli to N it shows 0,1,0.... no
drift, point it to W it shows 270,271 270... no drift aso.

Still connected to the USB and pointing N, I went to the Flight Data tab,
connected, after link was established, compass shows 150 and then drifting
slowly to N and beyond.

Everything else I reported above in this case, still applies.

I guess some buck in the Mission Planer, because raw data ok (test compass)???
