Add V Space to numerator or denominator causes sever error

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Have an equation with three V Spaces.  The third V Space is a fraction.  I try 
to add V Spaces to the denominator and EE blows up (see attachment).
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Would like to be able to add 3 V Spaces to my denominator.
What version of the product are you using? On what browser?
1.5.2-b1001
