naf51 / Federalist_Papers

This project is meant to do an analysis of the Federalist Papers to see whether or not its content is more egalitarian (for the people and equality) or elitist (for those who wrote it).

During our meeting today we began by going over how to clone github to our personal machines as well as how to upload a commit of our own to the github page by using the Git Command Prompt. We then discussed the possibility of using a file from the internet that already contains the Federalist Papers marked up in XML and decided that this is a good route to take, as it will save us a lot of time. Tasks we have assigned for next week are; Patrick is going to produce a Relax NG schema to associate with the XML file that we got from the internet, while I am going to create some to-do boards and perform other organizational tasks on our github page.

Our team was also thinking of using pre marked-up versions of our documents! What went into choosing the version you are going to use? (If there were multiple to choose from)

Finding already marked up documents sounds like an mazing idea! I hope you all are able to find and apply these to your own projects. I have feeling this may be harder for our group, because the materials we will be searching for may be in other formats than just papers, such as posters, images, articles, etc. Essentially all things propaganda related, although we did not yet discuss these specifics as a group yet. Will the Federalist Papers be the extent of the information that you will be finding for your project? If there are other types of information, how to you plan to incorporate it into your project?

Has the group decided on a research question(s) yet? If so, are you sure that the version of marked up versions of the papers will be suitable? This is definitely one of the projects that I am most excited to see from the initial post that Nate made in the project proposals channel in slack.
