naf51 / Federalist_Papers

This project is meant to do an analysis of the Federalist Papers to see whether or not its content is more egalitarian (for the people and equality) or elitist (for those who wrote it).

Project Update 11/17 #19

We added some minor CSS and webpage features such as changing the font of the title, adding a background, etc. These are not final, rather familiarizing ourselves more with CSS and HTML.

We added to the write-up, specifying some sources we used and what methods we used to conduct our research and analysis. For instance, we are referencing the fragility of democracy during the time of publishing the Federalist Papers and the fragility of democracy currently. We also added why we wanted to look into the public's view of government, since Hamilton wrote under the pen name "Publius", a Latin term meaning roughly "the people", it is interesting that Hamilton, a renowned elite and founder of the Federalist Party, which supported big government, authored his work from a different perspective and figure that contained differing political ideologies.

We finally got our header links working on our project page, however, we do not have any content in there yet. We plan on adding language from the write-up which is intended to be part of the final project anyway. Patrick is switching his role to focus on XSLT, and transform the 24 papers we've chosen from XML to HTML, so we can display them on the page. Nate is switching from the write-up to focus on HTML and CSS. Shane is going to continue with topic modeling and further document analysis. During the break, Nate is going to continue with HTML and CSS. Although we will be on break, he is going to try put in the write-up content that he created into the page and experiment with Grid and Flexbox.

It seems that in terms of the website, even though you don't have a lot of content on it just yet, you are on the right track to getting some very interesting and in-depth research on it very soon. So, good on you guys for that and I can't wait to read it and see it! I very much like how you decided to specify the sources in which you used and what methods were used in order to conduct your research and analysis. It seems as if adding this in will very much heighten your project and will be very interesting for the viewer to see and read.
