naf51 / Federalist_Papers

This project is meant to do an analysis of the Federalist Papers to see whether or not its content is more egalitarian (for the people and equality) or elitist (for those who wrote it).

This week we began the process of working with our texts, as well as some last fixes on git related issues. We identified our texts within the Federalist Papers, reading through the major papers and brainstorming possible markups such as elements or attributes that could provide for more in-depth analysis for our project as the semester goes along. We also created a broad Relax NG schema that can capture the initial XML markups of the papers, with an eye towards adding more specifics as we add additional elements later on. In our meeting we detailed the progress in the schema creation and the element brainstorming, as well as beginning the process of identifying the texts we will be working with as well as splitting up the individual Federalist Papers to be read by each group member. After assigning one group member to the splitting up of the documents for our members to read for the week, we discussed the assignments that will be a part of our midterm, specifically mentioning: network analysis, topic modeling, and web design with an initial focus on wireframing; each of which we assigned to a specific group member to be started in the coming weeks. This week we will be focusing on reading of the papers and the initial XML markup work along side the relevant changes to the relax NG schema.

I had never heard of wireframing before and after looking into what it was it reminded me of the storyboarding process for film, which I have some experience with. I think that that will be a really great tool for your project (and for mine too.) Have you given any thought to whether you'll use software or make it by hand? A digital wireframe probably makes more sense for sharing and collaboration, but I think either way it will be a useful concept to explore.
