tried to check with Adwaita-dark but there seems to be no issues with that one, I also don't get the choice to change the 'Desktop' option to Adwaita-dark like I do with the 'Controls' option

Actual Issue bottom panel with windows does not change colours when selecting a material theme, it is the same transparent for all of what I select

I also don't really see any changes when I switch the title bar with the minimize/close icons from compact to regular and no colour difference between dark and normal, but light does change colour

Thanks for your report.

Indeed, when selecting 'Materia' or 'Materia-dark', the panel should be opaque dark color (#212121). I'll fix that.

I also don't really see any changes when I switch the title bar with the minimize/close icons from compact to regular

It's Intentional. Since the Metacity theming is ancient, adding compact version of Metacity themes is too much of maintenance cost. As a maintainer, it isn't reasonable, unfortunately...

and no colour difference between dark and normal, but light does change colour

That's by design :)

How's it going? Thanks for including Cinnamon support :)

i think this one should be either closed or renamed

NathanC commented 1 year ago

Any update on this? This can be renamed to "materia desktop theme for cinnamon results in a transparent panel". It looks like the system start menu doesn't pick up the theme correctly either.

Has anyone gotten this working in cinnamon?

NathanC commented 1 year ago

I've been exploring a few themes, and honestly this theme is amazing-- things look so much slicker and more readable than other themes I've tried.

But this bug is a huge barrier to using it currently. Does anyone know if a patch I could use to fix this?
