difficult installing tombo on mac os Monterey; python version important

As an exercise, I found installation using conda on a macbook air (early 2015) with Mojave operating system was fine. The only issue was one flagged after using the plot command on files generated with this tool, which recommended the solution: export KMP_DUPLICATE_LIB_OK=true That allowed subsequent use of that command. Since a macbook air is not sufficiently robust to handle large datasets, what I wanted to do was install on an iMac, and that is where the problems began (see part 4 for what worked for me)

Installation on an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019) running Monterey (12.5.1) there was some difficulty in installing this program. In previous posts on installation problems it was suggested to try using strict channel priority, which I did. The result using conda with strict channel priority failed with:

Your python: python=3.9

If python is on the left-most side of the chain, that's the version you've asked for. When python appears to the right, that indicates that the thing on the left is somehow not available for the python version you are constrained to. Note that conda will not change your python version to a different minor version unless you explicitly specify that.

Note that strict channel priority may have removed packages required for satisfiability.

3. Since strict channel priority failed, I tried using flexible channel priority.

Then, in my tombo environment I tried to install tombo, and it hung for at least 40 minutes, after which I cancelled it:

4. Since the previous error indicated a problem with python, and my macbook air was OK on python 3.6.10, I tried setting a specific python version within my tombo environment. This also hung for a while at the same spot as above but eventually asked for multiple installations, and finally installed tombo. Which worked.
