[WIP] Check some changes to layer controls + PySide6 6.7.0 #6880

Description

With the changes here + PySide6 6.7.0 I was able to run napari/_qt/_tests/test_qt_viewer.py locally without the tests segfaulting and only getting the following warning message: QObject::startTimer: Timers can only be used with threads started with QThread:

Creating this PR to check if those changes help also over the CI
