I don't have any performance issues with this game. Post your system specs, especially OS version and GPU model.

If you're on Windows Vista or 7, then it's a known issue. Until a permanent fix is available in the next release, you can try the temporary fix attached in the following comment: https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat/issues/104#issuecomment-869168178

Yeah I'm on windows 7 with a 1070, since Windows 10/11 is moving you to signed binaries, aka enjoy denuvo levels of drm in future apps going forward and being permanently spied on your webhabits while beaming that info to microsoft and the IP enforcement authorities.
